All-terrain tyres for the 2021-on Mazda BT-50: options compared

For a lightly loaded BT-50 on factory 18-inch wheels, we would start by investigating a suitable 265/60R18 all-terrain rather than automatically changing the wheels or choosing an LT tyre. For a touring vehicle, let the actual load determine the construction.

Falken Wildpeak A/T4W, BFGoodrich KO3, Maxxis RAZR AT811 and Toyo Open Country A/T III belong on the initial comparison list. Not all their versions suit the same Mazda wheel.

This guide covers Australian third-generation 4x4 BT-50s from MY2021 onwards. It excludes the earlier BT-50 and requires separate checks for modified or special conversion packages.

Keep the useful part of the factory setup

Mazda's brochure includes 265/60R18 on 18 x 7.5 wheels and 255/65R17 on 17 x 7 wheels. Confirm the exact specification on your own ute.

If your wheels already deliver the look and clearance you want, tyre replacement does not need to become a new wheel project. Ask for options compatible with those wheels first.

Falken Wildpeak A/T4W for a factory-wheel shortlist

Falken's Australian specification table lists a 265/60R18 XL version whose approved rim range includes 7.5 inches. We would use that as one starting quote for a road-heavy BT-50, subject to its complete rating and fitment requirements.

This is a dimensional reason to investigate it. It does not make it a wet-braking winner or prove suitability for your load.

BFGoodrich KO3 as an alternative all-terrain quote

Put the KO3 alongside the first option if a compatible Australian specification is available. Require the complete designation on the quote.

We would not pay a premium based solely on the badge. Ask what the proposed product adds for your use, and what the fitted price includes.

Maxxis RAZR AT811 for a comparable specification

The AT811 is another candidate worth pricing once wheel and tyre requirements are fixed. Compare construction and ratings as well as diameter. A cheaper quote for a different specification is not a like-for-like saving.

For the 17-inch Mazda package, get written rim approval for the exact SKU. Do not infer it from a size selector alone.

Toyo Open Country A/T III with the rim check first

The Toyo Australian brochure lists an eight-inch minimum approved rim for LT265/60R18 119S. That is wider than the cited factory 7.5-inch Mazda wheel.

This candidate stays conditional until Toyo or the fitter supplies current documentation permitting the exact proposed setup. If that cannot be obtained, choose another compatible tyre or assess a complete wheel change. 'Same tyre size' is not enough.

Check the road-performance trade-off

A 2026 independent comparison raised wet-performance concerns for the tested A/T4W. A compatible wheel specification does not settle that question. Ask for relevant evidence before choosing it for a road-heavy Mazda.

Daily driver or loaded tourer?

For a daily driver, we would avoid paying for a construction or size increase that the job does not need. Ask for road-performance evidence and compare a compatible option retaining the existing wheels.

For a touring BT-50, describe permanent equipment, normal passengers and towing use. Get a load-informed recommendation before choosing an LT variant.

We have not tested these tyres head-to-head on the Mazda. Treat the shortlist as a practical route to an informed quote, not a claimed performance ranking.

The final purchase check

Require the exact tyre, wheel approval and fitted cost in writing. Confirm whether balancing, monitoring sensors and alignment are included, and settle registration requirements before changing size.
