ROH Crawler wheels: sizes, fitment and the builds they suit
Every current ROH Crawler size, offset and load rating, plus the Ranger, HiLux and touring builds each wheel suits and the checks to make before buying.
ROH Crawler is a strong all-round wheel for Australian touring utes and 4x4s when you want a detailed mesh face without moving to an oversized road wheel. For most mixed-use builds, 17x9 is the best place to start. The current range also includes a practical 16x8 and a more road-led 18x9.
The model name alone does not prove fitment. Crawler covers two PCDs, four 6/139.7 offsets and three different published load ratings. The correct part number depends on the vehicle, brakes, hub, tyre, suspension, loads and registration rules.
What this guide covers
This guide covers the current Australian ROH Crawler range in 16, 17 and 18-inch sizes. It explains the published specifications, where each size makes sense and what to check for a Ford Ranger, Ranger Raptor or Toyota HiLux.
ROH also names the LandCruiser 300 Series, Prado, D-Max, BT-50, Triton and Navara among the vehicle families Crawler can suit. That is manufacturer-level family coverage, not confirmation for every generation or variant.
The hero above is a Nordak visual concept on a Ranger Raptor. It shows the intended build character, not evidence that a particular Crawler SKU has been physically fitted or tested on that vehicle.
The short answer
- Choose 17x9 for the broadest mixed-use brief. The 6/139.7 range has +0, +12, +25 and +40 offsets, each with a published 1500 kg per-wheel rating. That range gives a supplier several starting points, but only one may be right for your vehicle.
- Choose 16x8 when a smaller wheel suits the vehicle and tyre plan. Crawler offers one 6/139.7 +30 option rated at 1250 kg per wheel. Confirm brake clearance before assuming the smaller diameter fits.
- Choose 18x9 for a more road-led or premium build. It carries the same published 6/139.7 offset range as 17x9, but leaves less tyre sidewall when overall tyre diameter stays comparable.
- Do not shop by PCD alone. A shared bolt pattern says nothing about brake clearance, centre location, wheel hardware, legal track or tyre clearance.
Crawler suits a premium daily, mixed touring build or loaded touring ute when the exact wheel and tyre combination checks out. It is less convincing for an owner who wants a plain work wheel, a lightweight minimalist design or a true beadlock. Its outer lip is beadlock-style, not evidence of a beadlock system.
ROH Crawler sizes, offsets and load ratings
ROH's current Australian fitment table lists four specification groups:
- 16x8, 6/139.7, +30: 1250 kg per wheel
- 17x9, 6/114.3, +30: 1050 kg per wheel
- 17x9, 6/139.7, +0, +12, +25 or +40: 1500 kg per wheel
- 18x9, 6/139.7, +0, +12, +25 or +40: 1500 kg per wheel
The table matters more than the headline. ROH's overview broadly describes Crawler as a 1500 kg wheel in 6/139.7 fitments, but its 16x8 6/139.7 row is rated at 1250 kg. Do not quote the highest rating attached to the wheel family. Ask for the rating of the exact part number on the invoice.
Both Machined and Matt Black finishes are listed across the current table. The multi-spoke mesh face, concave centre and bolt-detailed outer lip give Crawler more visual detail than a simple six-spoke or steel wheel. Matt Black works with dark bars, canopies and trim. Machined makes the face more visible on a dark vehicle and can keep an all-black build from becoming visually flat.
Which Crawler size suits your build?
16x8: practical touring and work-focused builds
The 16x8 +30 Crawler is the practical-size option when the vehicle accepts a 16-inch wheel and the tyre brief benefits from more sidewall. It can suit a work ute, regional touring vehicle or restrained build where the tyre should carry more of the visual mass than the wheel.
Its limitations are important. ROH lists only one Crawler specification at this diameter, the published rating is 1250 kg rather than 1500 kg and some variants have brakes that rule out a 16-inch barrel. A different model in the same vehicle family having factory 16s does not prove clearance on yours.
17x9: the mixed-use all-rounder
For a daily-driven touring ute, 17x9 is the strongest Crawler starting point. It keeps useful tyre sidewall, makes the mesh face easy to read and offers four 6/139.7 offsets. That makes it easier for a supplier to select a conservative or more assertive stance without changing the wheel design.
Offset choice is technical, not cosmetic. Moving the wheel outwards can affect tyre coverage, steering feel, bearing and suspension loads, inner clearance and legal track. Start with the vehicle-specific application, then judge the stance.
The separate 17x9 6/114.3 +30 wheel carries a 1050 kg rating. Do not transfer the 1500 kg figure from the 6/139.7 rows to it.
18x9: premium daily and road-led builds
The 18x9 Crawler suits an owner who wants the wheel face to play a larger visual role. On a premium daily or road-led touring build, it can look more deliberate than the 17 while retaining the same four published 6/139.7 offsets and 1500 kg table rating.
The trade-off is the tyre package. At a comparable overall diameter, an 18-inch wheel leaves less sidewall than a 17. Tyre availability, load and speed ratings, ride, rim protection, clearance and legal overall diameter still need to work as one system.
Do Crawler wheels fit a Ford Ranger?
ROH includes Crawler in its general selection for late-model Ranger and Ranger Raptor. Its Ranger page also tells buyers to use the vehicle selector for the specific year and model.
That distinction matters. Next-Gen Ranger, Ranger Raptor, earlier PX models and Ranger Super Duty do not share one universal wheel brief. Variant-specific brakes, hubs, suspension and wheel hardware can change the answer. Do Crawler wheels fit a Toyota HiLux?
ROH also includes Crawler in its general late-model HiLux selection, but does not present every published Crawler row as interchangeable across all HiLux variants.
An N80 WorkMate, SR5, wide-track Rogue and GR Sport can have different wheel, tyre, track and brake considerations. Treat the Crawler product page as a shortlist, then confirm the exact year, grade, body, drivetrain, brakes and part number.
What to check before buying
Give the supplier your registration or VIN, build date, exact variant, body style, drivetrain and details of any suspension or GVM changes. Ask them to confirm:
- The Crawler part number is approved for that exact vehicle.
- PCD, centre location, nut seat, thread engagement and hardware match the hub.
- The barrel and spoke shape clear the brakes.
- Width and offset clear the body, chassis, steering and suspension from lock to lock and through suspension travel.
- The wheel remains inside the bodywork or flares and the track change is legal for the vehicle category and jurisdiction.
- The selected tyre is approved for the rim width and carries the required load and speed ratings.
- The wheel's row-level load rating suits the vehicle, axle loads and any certified GVM upgrade.
- TPMS, spare-wheel compatibility and wheel-nut torque are addressed.
The Australian Government's VSB 14 Section LS requires replacement wheels to suit the particular hub and axle, use compatible attachment hardware and avoid contact under operating conditions. It also warns that width and offset changes can increase steering and suspension loads.
VSB 14 provides national technical requirements, but each state and territory retains its own administrative requirements. Check the authority where the vehicle is registered before fitting a non-standard combination.
Our verdict
Start with the 17x9 Crawler for a mixed-use Ranger, HiLux or similar 6/139.7 touring build. Choose 16x8 when smaller-wheel practicality and tyre sidewall matter more, provided the brakes and 1250 kg rating suit the vehicle. Choose 18x9 when the build is more road-led and the tyre package still meets the practical brief.
Crawler's strength is the combination of a recognisable mesh design, two finishes and a useful 6/139.7 offset range. Its weakness is that the broad range makes model-name shopping risky. The right Crawler is the exact part number that fits the vehicle and tyre as a complete system.
