Can you fit 35-inch tyres on a Next-Gen Ford Ranger?

Yes, specific Next-Gen Ranger conversions are offered for 35-inch tyres. That is a different proposition from fitting 35s to a standard Ranger with a small lift. Choose a documented complete package and establish whether it covers your vehicle before ordering wheels.

This guide concerns Australian 2022-on PY diesel dual cabs. Ranger Raptor, Ranger Super Duty, plug-in hybrid, earlier PX models and overseas-market trucks need separate evidence.

A documented route to 35s

Superior Engineering lists the Outback Explorer SUP-RAGPY4SSM-KIT for PY bi-turbo and V6 diesel dual cabs, combining a four-inch suspension lift, 35-inch tyres and a GVM conversion.

Installer BAW Automotive describes the package, including a pre-registration approval route. Treat that distinction seriously: a package for an unregistered vehicle does not automatically settle the process for a Ranger already on the road.

These sources show that an engineered route exists. They do not make four inches a universal minimum, prove other kits inadequate or approve your chosen tyre SKU.

How much bigger are 35s?

Compare the actual proposed tyre with the manufacturer's designated original size. Do not use someone else's Raptor as the baseline.

For illustration, 285/70R17 calculates to 830.8 mm. A nominal 35-inch tyre is 889 mm. The difference is 58.2 mm in diameter, or 29.1 mm in radius. A 315/70R17 calculates to 872.8 mm, so even two packages called '35s' can be materially different.

Those figures are geometry, not measured specifications. The exact product's dimensions and permitted wheel widths control the next step.

Why a lift height alone is not an answer

A four-inch kit name cannot tell you whether a tyre will touch the body through steering and suspension movement. A wheel's offset also changes where the tyre travels, and the vehicle's normal load belongs in that assessment.

Ask the installer to explain the limiting clearance points on your Ranger. Request a check at full steering lock and through suspension travel. A photograph taken with the wheels straight establishes very little.

If a proposal involves modifying structural or safety-related components, get the approved procedure and consequences in writing. Do not copy a crash-bar modification from a forum build.

The questions to settle before paying

• Does the package cover your engine, body style, model year and existing registration status?
• Which exact tyre sizes and wheel specifications are included in its documentation?
• What happens to the spare, tyre-pressure monitoring and speedometer?
• Are additional clearance, alignment or calibration tasks required?
• What approval and inspection records will you receive?

For an Australian road vehicle, check the current process with the authority where it is registered. National modification guidance does not replace that step.

Are 35s worth it for your Ranger?

If the goal is a tougher appearance with occasional gravel-road touring, the smaller option deserves a proper look. If the larger setup is central to your build, budget for the package that supports it. Avoid choosing tyres first and asking the rest of the vehicle to catch up.
