Cattle rails give a working bakkie its familiar open frame above the load bin. In South Africa you will also hear them called skaaptralies, sometimes written as 'skaap tralies', or stockman rails. Their farming purpose is straightforward: helping contain livestock such as sheep and cattle within a suitably equipped vehicle.

What makes Natko Utility Rails distinctive?
Natko's Utility Range uses 50 mm framework tapered to follow the cab, with a removable V-gate, an aerial bracket and an adjustable gate handle. Those are the manufacturer's stated features, and they give you concrete details to compare when looking at different rail designs.
The taper matters visually: the framework follows the cab's shape instead of sitting above the bin as a square box. The removable gate is worth discussing with the installer if the bakkie alternates between livestock work and carrying equipment.
Natko manufactures its rails in Robertson and describes their use across South Africa and neighbouring countries in the agricultural sector. That is the context for the Utility Range: a working accessory with a recognisable place on a farm bakkie.
Utility Rails or Leisure Rails?
Stay with the Utility Range if this is the open, tapered frame and V-gate design you want. It is also the Natko design represented in Nordak's cattle rail option.
Natko describes its Leisure Range separately, with a front-to-rear taper and optional access features. Ask about that range if your priority is a more involved leisure setup. Do not assume features offered on Leisure Rails come with Utility Rails.
Cattle rails for Hilux and Ford Ranger
Start with your exact vehicle and load bin, rather than ordering from the model name alone. Someone searching for cattle rails for Hilux could own a single cab, xtra cab or double cab from a different generation to the one in a product photograph. The same applies to cattle rails for Ford Ranger, including a Raptor.
Give Natko or your installer the model year, cab configuration and details of any existing bin accessories. Ask them to confirm the correct rail length, mounting arrangement and gate clearance for that vehicle. A photograph of rails fitted to a Hilux does not establish Ranger fitment.
Nordak treats the design as one visual option whose length follows the pictured tub. The physical product still needs to be specified for the actual bakkie.
A farm accessory has to suit the job
For a bakkie that regularly moves livestock, suitable containment is a basic part of the working setup. Choose the rails around the animals and the job before choosing them around the look.
Rails alone do not make a vehicle safe for animal transport. The NSPCA highlights unsuitable vehicles, slippery floors and overcrowding as welfare problems. Discuss the complete setup with a qualified supplier: secure mounting, suitable flooring, ventilation and loading access, as well as the vehicle's load limits. Confirm suitability for the species and size of animal you intend to carry.
