Can you fit 35-inch tires on a 2024-on Toyota Tacoma?

Yes, there are specific fourth-generation Tacoma lift packages that list 35-inch tires. They do not cover every trim, wheel or suspension configuration. Match the kit to your truck before treating a size chart as a shopping list.

This guide covers US-market 2024 to 2026 fourth-generation Tacomas, with the concrete 35-inch example below limited to the named SR/SR5 configuration. It does not approve the same parts for TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, Trailhunter, Limited, hybrid or 2WD trucks.

A specific 35-inch example

Rough Country's 74330 kit is described as a 3.5-inch package for 4WD SR/SR5 models with rear leaf springs. Its wheel-and-tire section lists 35x12.50R17 with a 17x9 wheel at +18 offset.

That is evidence for a manufacturer-defined combination to investigate. It is not a claim that every 3.5-inch lift fits 35s, that all 35-inch tires measure alike or that the package requires no clearance work.

Ask the manufacturer or installer to confirm your trim, model year, exact tire and current instructions together. A recommendation based only on '2024 Tacoma' leaves too much unspecified.

Lift height does not rank tire clearance

Consider a contrasting example. ReadyLIFT's 69-54250 page lists 285/75R17 as its no-trim maximum on a specified 17x8 +35 combination.

That ReadyLIFT kit is for the eligible coil-spring configuration. Its exclusions include rear leaf springs, TRD Pro, Trailhunter and adaptive variable suspension; the stabiliser-disconnect configuration is untested. Do not substitute it for the SR/SR5 leaf-spring package above.

A nominal 285/75R17 calculates to 33.8 inches. It is not a true 35. The useful information is the complete combination and its conditions, not the number on the lift-kit box.

Also check the tire manufacturer's permitted rim width independently. A suspension manufacturer's clearance chart and a tire manufacturer's rim approval answer different questions.

What does a 35 add over a 33?

A 285/70R17 calculates to 830.8 mm. A nominal 35-inch tire is 889 mm. That is approximately 58 mm more diameter and 29 mm more radius before differences in real tire dimensions and deflection.

The wider section and shoulder shape can matter as much as height. Compare the exact product specifications rather than assuming every 35x12.50 behaves the same.

What the installer needs to check

Have the truck assessed at steering lock and through suspension travel. Include the spare location, tire-pressure monitoring, speedometer and the requirements of any driver-assistance systems affected by the modifications.

Ask whether bodywork or brackets need changing and get the approved instructions before agreeing. A clean-looking parked truck is not proof of clearance on a trail.

Should you choose 35s?

For a daily driver with occasional trail use, we would price a suitable 33-inch-class setup alongside the 35-inch package. Compare the entire installed solution, including any new wheels and spare arrangement.

For a dedicated larger-tire build, choose the documented kit and tire combination first, then settle the appearance within those constraints. Do not buy a set of wide wheels and expect an installer to make the rest work.
